Helping These Bright Students Reach the ‘Crescendo’ in the 2024 FIRST Robotics Competition
At MCC, we support innovation in many ways. So we’re excited to share that one of the teams we sponsor in the FIRST® Robotics Competition, the RoboBlazers, have already set the stage for a successful 2024 season.
This year is a time of transition for the team, as half of the members are new to the group. Now, the expanding team is up to 22 members, led by seven passionate mentors.
The 2024 FIRST® Robotics Competition season is aptly named “Crescendo.” In this game, the robot must pick up flexible disks called “Notes” and strategically shoot or place them into various field elements. Robots can earn additional points by amplifying their speaker, getting on stage, harmonizing, and stealing the spotlight before time runs out. This action-packed challenge is sure to make for an exciting event for participants and viewers! We invite you to watch the overview to get a glimpse of how this complex game works.
Our RoboBlazers only have eight weeks to build and program their robot, followed by nine intense weeks of tournaments. The team strategically selected when they would compete in the tournaments, choosing Weeks 3 and 4 to give them an extra week and a half to design, build, test, and practice for the event.

Successfully completing Week 2 of the build season, the team focused on the following crucial tasks (which will pay off in the real world as well as the competition):
- CADin the robot design
- Creating and testing shooter and intake prototypes
- Building field pieces
- Migrating their drivetrain code to the 2024 libraries
The RoboBlazers have already demonstrated unwavering motivation and cohesive teamwork while making efficient decisions.
We’re thrilled to witness the growth of the RoboBlazers team and look forward to documenting their journey and success!
