Market Demands, Navigating Shortages, and More

In early May, we made our exhibition debut at PCIM Europe in Germany. The event was a huge success! We enjoyed meeting with clients and other industry professionals to get a pulse of what’s popular in EMEA and other regions.

This year’s show highlighted markets in constant innovation, including E-mobility and Energy Storage. MCC showcased our advanced solutions in those markets, as well as the fast-growing Renewable Energy sector:

While manufacturers, OEMs, and design engineers continue to evolve these applications as we know them, there’s a lot more work to be done to keep pace with demand.

Here are a few of our team’s takeaways:

Some newer technologies are slow to gain adoption

Based on our team’s conversations with clients and prospects, adoption of Gallium nitride (GaN) components has a long way to go before it catches up with Silicon Carbide (SiC) options. For some, it’s a matter of cost. But for others, there’s a lack of confidence in GaN, especially when it comes to reliability in high-voltage applications.

Until those technologies become more widely adopted, MCC has you covered with several products suited for high-voltage applications, including TO-leadless (TOLL) solutions.

Shortages require a shift in procurement responsibilities and strategies

One trend we’re seeing amid parts shortages is manufacturers adding more preferred options to their approved vendor lists (AVLs). And because Sourcing needs to take full ownership of the procurement process during outages, many of the responsibilities and relationships are moving away from R&D and onto the Sourcing department’s plate. To keep production moving, Sourcing can override R&D suppliers during new project development, and MCC can help expedite approvals and qualifications.

With ISO-certified operations, a robust portfolio of Automotive-grade components, and greater supply chain control, MCC is available to assist you in sourcing the right crosses for your BOM, whether you need drop-in replacements, functional equivalents, or functional alternatives.

At MCC, we have proven relationships and better-than-average lead times, making us an ideal solution for companies seeking to efficiently add partners to their AVLs or obtain approvals for Tier 2 or Tier 3 suppliers. Plus, our simple business structure helps speed up the qualification process.

Automotive & Industrial Trends

Designers of converter/inverters, off-board chargers, and charging stations are moving toward Silicon Carbide (SiC) solutions with lower RDS(on). However, the cost difference in these components remains a challenge that impacts adoption. MCC offers competitive pricing on high-voltage SiC MOSFETs ideal for off-board chargers and other Industrial and Renewable applications.

In EMEA, demand is strong for SiC MOSFETs in D2PAK-7 and IGBT discretes in SMD packages. To address these market needs, MCC will roll out new SiC MOSFETs and IGBT products in those packages later this year.

Automotive is a huge growth area in the EMEA, especially in Germany. More and more manufacturers will require AEC-Q certification. To meet this growing need, MCC is launching more than 100 AEC-Q101 qualified components in Q3 2023 alone! Explore our latest NPIs here.

As Automotive and Industrial markets continue to expand, MCC is your total solutions partner for top-quality semiconductors with a competitive edge. Contact our team to request a sample or learn how we can help.
